Reasons to Add a Room to Home

There are primarily two types of room additions possible. One is a vertical addition while the other is a horizontal addition. The latter is primarily done when seeking to increase comfort. New footings and foundations may have to be put in or the roof raised or extended to make the required space. If you have room in the backyard to extend the house back, which is normally the case, then so be it. Perhaps the home needs to grow and in some cases, the backyard has plenty of room or perhaps you do not use the backyard that much and incorporate all that size into your lifestyle (a business office is more important to you than a swimming pool, for instance). Before starting work on the room additions, it is essential to chalk out the requirements and dimensions of the space to be added. This has to be followed by the budget available for the project. Converting an existing space may be a cost-effective measure. For instance, a spare garage can be changed into an additional room with a few changes here and there. Since features like the door and flooring will exist, the cost on these will be non-existent.

Choose A Siding Contractor

Experience. It may seem obvious but this is something you need to ascertain before making the big decision. The question to ask is how many years has the company been in business. Is the statement of 20 years of experience include when the owner was an apprentice? You need a company that has been in business for years and has worked on and managed many jobs. The experience of the owner is important but all things being equal I pass on a siding company that has been in business for two or three years. Reputation. What is meant here is local reputation. It is time to be skeptical, no more how many good reviews, of a company that operates hundreds of miles away. You need to be looking for a company that has an office within a reasonable driving distance. It is easy to check the reviews on the internet and that is one method but you should also ask for references from jobs they have finished. A combination of checking online reviews and checking references will give you a feel for what kind of company you are dealing with. Quality Materials. Lots of experience and a stellar reputation will

Tackling Kit Homes

For one, you need to know that there are four basic types of kit homes: log homes, panelized homes, timber-frame homes and geodesic homes. They are also the type of homes that are pre-customized and pre-designed off-site and then delivered to the homeowner’s preferred site for assembly and construction. Kit homes are not a new concept, in fact, as early as 1908 the Sears company had been selling these types of homes before World War II and are actually responsible for its introduction to the world. Each kit home type offers something for discriminating tastes and features that cater to specific needs. Log homes for example, are for those who would like to always live with the rustic and rugged appeal of the outdoors, for those who want to be as close to Nature as they possibly can. Panelized homes, on the other hand, are for busy people who have little time to hover over the construction process and panelized homes, which already have the wall sections and roof trusses already made in a factory before they are shipped out to the preferred site for assembly, is perfect because it saves time and of course, money. For the environment-conscious, timber-frames

Frank Lloyd Wright

Frank Lloyd Wright was a great man, a great designer, and said to have been one of the greatest architects of all time. His spectacular creative genius can be seen throughout his sketches, work, and ultimate homes and buildings. Still, as great of a designer as he was, he may have been many decades ahead of his time, as the materials of the day had troubles keeping up with his mental concepts, as he asked these structures to often defy gravity. But that didn’t stop Frank. Indeed, they say that with brilliance comes baggage. And I suppose in the future with carbon nanotubes, graphene coatings, 3-D printed lattices, and chemical foam material science most if not ALL of Frank Lloyds Wright’s fantasies, dreams, visions, and designs will be feasible. Still, today we are left with, well, what we do have to work with. In Housing Zone online news there was an interesting article titled; “12 lessons from a production home framing inspector – Structural engineer and expert framer Tim Garrison presents his assessment and recommendations from a recent framing inspection,” by Tim Garrison. I guess my comments here are this; just because much of designs of folks like Frank Lloyd
